Description

Just another button that I want to use in my descriptions. I'm anal about things matching and even so I needed another button to use thus this was born.:giggle: The message isn't super important but one that fits where it shall be used and since some folks may wish to click it to be brought here, I've included a few faqs about adopts which folks might find helpful. As popular as they are among DA now, there are still some unaware. ;p If you feel there is something else I can add here that is a common question, feel free to comment and I'll consider adding it ~ :la:

If for some strange reason you wish to use this too, go ahead. I just ask that you use the Thumb Code please!
:alert: Thumb codes only work in deviation descriptions for premium members! :alert:

However, I have these smaller ones available that NON-members can use, you just need to find in "add media" - NOT the thumb!

Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Grey) - F2U! Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! What is an Adopt/Adoptable?!
A Character design that an artist creates which they let someone become the new owner of. Designs range from whatever you can imagine but some are fandom based like MLP or pokemon, then there are real animals or humans and the more exciting original species.
Dot Bullet (Light Blue) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Lime Green) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Light Blue) - F2U! What is an OPEN Species?!
When an original species is labeled "Open" it means that the artist/creator of this species grants any and everyone who wants, to make their own design of that species. This means you can make one for free, you don't have to acquire one from the creator of the species.
Example of an open one ~  Feral Vernid Reference and QandA by LiLaiRa
Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Grey) - F2U! Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! What is a CLOSED Species?!
A "Closed" species is the opposite of an open one. This one the artist/creator of the species does NOT grant anyone to make a design of their species but can only gain one directly through them or sometimes the artist will even have guest designers (someone they give permission) to make more of their species but gives a bit more variety on style. =D
Example of closed ones ~ :iconeyapi: , :iconorehunters: , :iconbagbeans: and my own. ^^
Dot Bullet (Light Blue) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Lime Green) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Light Blue) - F2U! How do I obtain/get an adoptable?!
This varies based on the artist's desire; they may sell it for a straight-price or in form of an auction where folks to bid and highest bidder wins, a draw-to-adopt, raffles or even make-your-own events where you get to keep if yours is approved or won if the event is held in the form of a contest. Some may get more creative but these are the common methods.
Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Grey) - F2U! Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! What does it mean to get a custom adoptable?!
When an artist designs a character upon you asking/paying them for it. They either work with colors you provide, or selects those themselves and designs the look for your character. Either for an animal/specie that you specify or they design it from scratch and then add the colors in unique (hopefully) markings/patterns. {{Example *do NOT copy/steal*}}
Dot Bullet (Light Blue) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Lime Green) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Light Blue) - F2U! What are adopt breedings?!
An artist takes 2 different characters (often referred to as adopts) and tries to create another character in mix of their color/designs. Virtual parents producing a virtual baby basically. ;)
Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! Dot Bullet (Grey) - F2U! Dot Bullet (My Purple) - F2U! What do I do with the adopt after it's mine?!
After ownership takes place, the new owner can do what they want with the character... usually. You can use the character for a roleplay, write a story about/with it, draw it many times to learn and grow your art skills, the ideas are whatever you feel you'd want to use a character for. ^^ However the rules of adoptables are generally similar, but it's best to consult the creator/seller's terms of use/service first, especially before buying. This helps ensure that whatever you have planned if you win, won't go against the creator's wishes. Some limit the reselling of the adoptable, others do not and others only allow you to gift the adoptable away rather than sell it. Some limit how much you can change the character's design, others allow you to change the design freely. If an artist doesn't list a terms of use/service, it's best to ask them any questions before bidding or buying.
*However this is not all of my own term/agreement but what I've seen various forms and mixes of these in the adopt community.
